This was in the late 1970’s and bi-pass surgery was a new procedure. The only place in our area that you could have the procedure performed was at the University hospital. This is a teaching hospital and so there are many innovative procedures that are preformed there. The hospital receives patients from

all over the United States so there was a four month waiting list prior to dad’s surgery. He was sent home with medication and a restricted diet. Suddenly my mother was looking for healthy recipes to cook. This was a great change for her because she used a great deal of butter and salt in her cooking, and they ate out in restaurants a great deal. Neither one of my parents had ever given a thought about healthy recipes and fat or salt content in their foods.

The heart attack really frightened my mother. She was determined that dad would regain his strength and be healthier. She became a fanatic at making sure everything she served him was made from healthy recipes. At that time there was not the number of fat alternatives that there are today. The alternatives that were on the market were poor tasting and poor quality.

My older sister tried to tell my mother that she did not need to try elaborate healthy recipes, but instead broil chicken and fish and serve fresh vegetables. The most difficult thing for dad was giving up chocolate as well as the rich desserts that mom made. She made pound cakes that melted in your mouth. She would make several at a time and freeze them. When ever she needed a dessert she would thaw one of the cakes and serve large pieces with fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce. We teased my dad that it was probably a piece of mom’s pound cake that clogged his artery.

During the four months of waiting for the surgery my parents gradually became accustom to their new life style. Mom did find some healthy recipes [http://www.BODY-MIND-WHOLENESS.COM] that tasted quite good. She learned to cook simpler meals and they both learned to make wiser choices when eating out in restaurants. Dad had his surgery and needed to stay in the hospital for a month due to complications. After his hospital stay he had several weeks in a rehab hospital closer to

home. Once he returned home he was able to resume most activities that he did prior to his heart attack. As the years went by

mom found that it was easier to create tasty healthy recipes with the improvement of reduced fat products.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-62784772879886938832014-02-17T23:05:00.000-08:002014-02-17T23:05:00.650-08:00Healthy Recipes For Kids

Healthy eating is important for proper growth in kids. Parents want to give their children a variety of nutrient-enriched food and drinks to help them to grow stronger and healthier. Usually, life patterns are set in childhood and early puberty. Following a healthy diet routine and using healthy recipes will give them the benefit of enjoying a strong body for the rest of their adult lives.

Healthy recipes for kids can be prepared by knowing facts about the food we eat. There is high-protein, high-fiber food that works for kids, and nutrient-empty, processed junk food that works against them. Studies show that on average, kids receive around thirty-eight percent of their daily calories from fats. The bad fat is responsible for creating free radicals in the body, which harm our good cells--including the brain cells. This fat negatively contributes towards obesity, heart disease, allergies, and other harmful conditions.

Sensible diets make sure that your kids are well, prevent the risk of developing dangerous diseases, and keep the foundation for solid mental as well as physical health. Junk food and unhealthy food can leave your child open to food hazards and infection, especially during rapid growth periods.

Statistics show that the obesity rate in kids is four times higher than it was in 1960s.This leaves children more susceptible to problems like diabetes, growth disorders, and sometimes even cancer.

Good food doesn't mean bland taste. Kids can easily be lured to eat healthy food by presenting it in a colorful and decorative manner. The carrot will look enticing if it is shaped like a cartoon figure, spinach can taste yummy if combined with a dash of cheese, and cereals will be wiped clean from the dish if presented in attractive serving plates. The trick is to educate them about the food, list the benefits, and make kids feel that they are eating something special and different each day.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-55943023416443505022014-02-17T12:30:00.000-08:002014-02-17T12:30:00.030-08:00Lose Weight - Indulge in Healthy Recipes

You do not have to necessarily starve yourself for you to lose weight. And Are You Living Healthy Recipes?

Ever thought about your diet away from food! I am not talking about what we eat and drink here people. Are your habits healthy and what sort of living healthy recipes do you follow on a daily basis?

I love the English language we use to communicate with, but do you know who we are in communication with constantly? Now I've said it I'm sure you do. Ourselves of course, have you ever thought about that.

We are not born with any habits healthy or otherwise, but as we grow we acquire some pretty fast, and for some of us those habits can be our downfall.

The habit of looking both ways before crossing the street. Now that's a good healthy habit, isn't it. How about the habit of eating everything on our plate before we finish a meal. That's a little more "grey area" isn't it. Bathing on a daily basis - we're all good with that, over eating on a regular basis and seeking comfort in food for many of us has become a bad habit.

But here's the good news folks - just as you learnt and acquired some bad habits so you can unlearn them and acquire new habits healthy and productive. How do you do this; let's move on to the second area I want to discuss.

Diets and living healthy recipes.

Now as I said before, I am not talking about what we eat and drink art this stage (we'll get to that).

How is a cake made...with ingredients put together from a recipe, right.

Now those ingredients have to be sourced by the cake maker. Away from food still, our diet on a daily basis is what we take in through our senses, especially our ears, eyes and what comes out of our mouth instead of going in, by that I mean our conversations! Now we choose who we have conversation with, what we read and watch on tv etc. and who and what we listen to. This is where your "living recipe" reveals it self. Where do you source the ingredients for your day-to-day diet! We have a choice what to watch, what to read, who or what to listen to, who to have meaningful conversations with. And all of this will determine your state of mind and your well being.

One brief dictionary definition for the word habit is this:

"...an acquired behaviour pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary".

This can be turned to your advantage in the quest for a healthy and full filling life.

A brief lesser considered dictionary definition of the word diet is this:

"...anything that is habitually provided or partaken of: Television has given us a steady diet of game shows and soap operas".

Do not think of diet only in terms of food consumption nor habits only as bad. You can create habits healthy and beneficial and you can cook up some new living healthy recipes for life. Nothing comes to anyone without some work on themselves first, even if that is only some self-knowledge.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-55144269440131819462014-02-15T11:35:00.000-08:002014-02-15T11:35:00.042-08:00Healthy Recipes - Functional Food and Healthy Recipes - Do You Know
Them?

Welcome again. This time I would continue the topic of healthy recipes and food. In my previous articles I was writing about many different topics connected with cooking, eating or even storing food. This topic will be very important for people who prefer healthy lifestyle and healthy eating. I would like to provide you information about functional food. Read this article to the end and you will know what is it.

So let's start. I would like to give you some kind of definition of a functional food. It's a kind of food that of course have to feed people, but apart from that it have to influence human organism (for example it can reduce cholesterol level in blood, strengthen hardiness of human body, it can remove problems connected with digestive tract and it can heal people or help with healing). Func. food can be an element of everyday diet (there are many healthy recipes that include func. food). So any tablets or any other pharmaceutical products are not included in group of func. food. It should be a product made from natural ingredients that can make people more healthy.

The functional food ingredients are products with high level of such ingredients as: fatty acid, food cellulose, vitamins, probiotics, prebiotics and products with low level of such ingredients as: cholesterol or calories.

Functional food and healthy recipes connected with it are very popular in west Europe and in United States of America, but the lider in production of such food is Japan. In this country healthy recipes and functional food are the most popular (people in Japan were working on it about 30 years ago).

That's all I wanted to write about healthy recipes and healthy functional food. I hope that this kind of food will be very popular in Poland and other countries in which they aren't important. I believe that this kind of food will improve health of people in the whole world.

Thank you for reading this text. I hope that information included in it are interesting. I believe that they will be helpful and important for you now or in the future. Are you interested in more culinary information ? Please read my other articles and you will obtain more info. I also recommend you to wait for my another texts that will appear very soon. Once again thank you for your attention and for reading.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-61296049834137001752014-02-13T23:25:00.000-08:002014-02-13T23:25:00.136-08:00Healthy Recipes for Weight Loss

So do healthy recipes for weight loss really exist? And if so, do they work?

Well, yes and yes.

Healthy recipes mean a nutritious balance of protein, carbohydrate and fat. It's not about banning whole food groups or eating nothing more than lettuce. The weight loss part comes in because the healthy dish should have less fat/sugar/calories than the regular version. And to achieve weight loss we have to give our bodies a bit less fuel so that they can use up some of our battery power (that's our stored fat).

The easiest way to ensure a recipe is healthy is to cook it at home. That way we can see what goes into it - and after all, we really are what we eat! Even non-cooks can put a jacket potato in the oven, or assemble a fruit salad. A good way to eat more healthily is to put as many colours into a meal as possible - red tomatoes, green peppers, yellow eggs, orange carrots, purple aubergines, brown mushrooms, and so on. Variety should be the spice of life...

We can still eat the meals we enjoy, with a few healthy tweaks. Even the British take-away staple of fish and chips can get a slim line makeover. Instead of deep-fried battered fish, sprinkle chopped herbs and breadcrumbs over fish fillets and oven bake. Cut potatoes into wedges (skin on), plunge into boiling water and drain, then mix with a few drops of oil and some paprika and bake on a non-stick tray. Accompany with chopped chives stirred through plain yoghurt instead of fat-laden tartare sauce.

Any recipe that uses minced meat can be made with less fat if the meat is drained after dry frying. Also try replacing one quarter of the meat with cooked red or green lentils.

And a good non-stick wok or frying pan can be used for all kinds of frying with only a few drops of oil rather than lots of fat. Just add a splash of hot water if things start to stick.

As TV chefs are so fond of reminding us the success of a recipe is in the seasoning and taste of a finished dish. Unlike them, we don't have to load our recipes with salt and butter and cream to get wonderful flavours. We can let our culinary friends be herbs, spices, chillies, citrus fruits and yoghurt. Remember that dairy foods will tend to 'deaden' the flavour while lemon juice will pep it up.

Working out healthy recipes for weight loss isn't rocket science, it just means reducing the fat and sugar content of regular recipes. Of course eating fresh seasonal ingredients helps too, as they will be at their most nutritious. Don't be afraid to try something new - it's only food after all.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-57233946417017349142014-02-13T08:16:00.000-08:002014-02-13T08:16:00.078-08:00You and Healthy Recipes For Weight Loss

Healthy recipes for weight loss are an important thing to consider when you are trying to lose weight. Between work, errands, and children's after-school activities, it's not easy to find time to make a sit-down dinner. But before you head out to a restaurant for dinner, consider the advantages of eating together at home. With the rising costs of food and fuel putting a pinch on everyone's pocketbook these days, one way to ease the pain is to eat out less and make more meals at home.

Home-cooked meals provides benefits that help you save money and are healthier for you and your family.

Once you decide to do more cooking at home, pick out some favorite easy healthy recipes and then get creative. A home-cooked meal offers the following benefits:

* Reduces the amount of processed foods you eat. Freshly prepared meals are better for you than the typical grab-and-go snack. You can help ensure your family eats healthfully.

* Is time well invested. If you sit down to dinner, you'll probably eat more slowly and take time to enjoy it. This will help prevent overeating.

* Offers fewer distractions. If you serve dinner at the table, away from the television set and other distractions, you're likely to pay more attention to your food choices and portions.

* Gives you the chance to be a role model. When you eat at the dinner table, your children will have the opportunity to eat what you eat, in the atmosphere you create. This is an opportunity to instill good eating habits and manners.

* Allows you to try new foods. Use your family meal to prepare new foods as well as old favorites. You can find new ideas by checking out easy healthy recipes.

One guide that that I think every family should have is the "Everyday with Rachael Ray". This is a monthly subscription magazine that has easy healthy recipes for 30 minute meals, breakfast, starters and sides, soups and stews, salads &vegetables, pasta & pizza, etc.

The content is pretty impressive with wonderful recipes, ideas and food stories. Of course, once you try the recipes to see if they are any good, you will be amazed at the quality and variety. You will be able to make Grilled Beer Chicken with Potato Slabs, Orange Beef with Cilantro Rice, Turkey Kebabs, Roasted-Potato Pennette, Greek Style Tuna Salads, Posole (I was always looking for a good recipe for this - and this is the best one I have come across not to mention easy), Beef Wellingtons (simple) Chicken Curry and more!

Some of the recipes are from her many books, but there is lots of new stuff here as well. I really like the dessert recipes by contributor Silvana Nardone. Other cooks are featured here as well - so this is not strictly a "Rachael Ray" magazine.

Every issue comes with a handy 'mini cookbook' complete with grocery list - you can take this right out of the book and bring it to the store. Talk about convenient and clever! Wow! It boasts a week of 30 minute meals. Very nice for the busy home cook.

Overall, I am seriously impressed with this magazine - great content, supremely Easy Healthy Recipes, good variety, lots of pictures, nice layout and a sense of fun that is absent in many of the other cooking magazines. I recommend this magazine to everyone who loves to cook - not just those looking for cooking in a flash. Stunning!!!

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-36595293278857134342014-02-11T08:51:00.000-08:002014-02-11T08:51:00.326-08:00Healthy Recipe Ideas: Creamy Green Dip and Fresh Veggies

Getting healthy and staying healthy can be easy for some people. One of the biggest changes people can make is to take a look at their current eating habits and evaluate if they are providing their bodies with the nutrition they need, or if they are simply eating.

Unfortunately, far too many people have fallen into the rut of eating from fast-food take-out chains or preparing meals from prepackaged, convenience foods. Oftentimes, these people do not even realize how much they are minimizing the nutritional value of the foods they eat. It is sad to see so many people who do not realize how easy it can be to prepare a fresh, healthy meal for their family. There are many quick healthy recipes that allow people who are busy and short on time to get a nutritious, yet quick meal on the table.

There are even complete cookbooks, websites and cooking shows dedicated to showing people how easy it is to cook quick healthy recipes. Everything from appetizers, soups, entrees and desserts can be made from a wide variety of fresh and nutritious foods that are conveniently available at any local produce stand, or supermarket. Exploring the possibilities of preparing healthy meals and snacks can be a fun family activity and the health benefits and healthy lifestyle will create lifelong advantages.

Another great source of quick healthy recipes is the produce manager at your local grocery store. They typically have a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that many people have never even tried. Simply ask them for some suggestions. Also, ask about tips on how to serve or prepare these items and you will not only have another healthy recipe in your cooking repertoire, but you will expand the experiences and food choices of your entire family. This same principle can apply to your fishmonger or butcher, these people are there to serve you and they know their products better than anyone does. They are often more than willing to share some of their favorite tips and techniques for preparing the catch of the day. If you look around, you are bound to find a wealth of quick healthy recipes to enhance your family's meal options.

Taking a few minutes to plan and prepare ahead of time will make putting together a healthy menu much easier and quicker. Most of their waking hours are consumed at work, in school, and in other activities. And with all the busyness and the hectic schedule, one thing that usually suffers is a person's diet. Health has become less of a priority now because many people don't have enough time to prepare real food. The growth of fast food chains isn't helping, either. And thus, you'll notice the growing number of obese individuals today, as well as those with diseases related to poor diet. At this point, what everybody needs are healthy recipes to help in the preparation of nutritious foods.

Whereas there is a common misconception that good food takes a lot of time and effort to prepare, there are actually healthy recipes that you can easily prepare in a matter of a few minutes. All you need to do is find these recipes.

Easy-Cook and Easy-Prepare Equipment

Aside from finding healthy recipes, it would be very helpful if you have the right equipment that will help you cook and prepare foods in a jiffy. The right cooking equipment are real life savers during those days when you need to prepare breakfast for your family while in a hurry to the office for your morning appointment, during those times when you suddenly have that urge to snack on something delicious but healthy, and during those instances when you get home late and find out that there's no dinner yet.

What are these life savers? Among the basic are these three:

o Blender. If you think blender is only for smoothies, then you're wrong. Sure, this equipment is a life saver during those sudden cravings for something delicious, for those quick desserts, and for on-the-go take out, but you can use it for more! You can make pie and even sauces by simply throwing in a few ingredients into the blender and pressing the blend button. In a matter of a few minutes, you'll have a delicious and nutritious food that your family will surely love.

o Food processor. This processor is one of the cooking miracles ever invented. It makes every cooking task easy by being able to do a lot of functions that you would otherwise do manually-which is, needless to say, time-consuming, tasking, and sometimes even messy. With a food processor, you'll have a slicer/chopper-grinder-shredder/grater-mixer/kneader in one.

o Crock pot or slow cooker. This cooking equipment is perfect for moms who have their hands filled in the evening or for those who get home late in the night and need real food. By preparing all your needed ingredients early in the morning and then plugging in the crock pot, you'll surely have dinner ready when you get home in the evening. It's that easy!

With all the mentioned cooking equipment in your kitchen, there's no reason you shouldn't eat healthy foods again. All you need is to find healthy recipes to help you with your cooking, and you're on your way to a healthier diet-no matter how busy you are!

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-61620848995951586622014-02-06T22:54:00.000-08:002014-02-06T22:54:00.066-08:00Easy Healthy Recipes - Start Slow and Finish Big With Easy Healthy

Kids can be very finicky eaters, especially when it comes to vegetables and grains. Moms, Dads and chefs all over the world are always swapping new ideas for meals and ways to ensure a child will eat healthy and good tasting food.

One of the biggest challenges facing parents is how to get a child to eat their vegetables. Instead of pouring fattening melted cheese all over broccoli, try hiding the unpopular green villains. Mix the veggies with chicken and a cream sauce and then roll it up in a doughy casing. Use either a tortilla (corn or flour), a crepe, or a pita pocket.

A Quiche made out of eggs, lean bacon and vegetables is both easy, quick and relatively cheap. Buy a ready-made pie crust at your local market and in a large mixing bowl, combine 5 eggs, broccoli (or any other vegetable) and cooked bacon pieces all together. Then pour the mixture into the pie crust and stick it in the oven at 425 degrees for a half hour. This is a healthy and delicious treat for the whole family.

Kids always crave certain foods such as pizza. A pizza can be made very healthy and made quickly. You can really go wild with the veggie toppings and load a ready-made pizza dough full of them. First cover the dough with a marinara sauce, sprinkle mozzarella cheese (an naturally low-fat cheese) over the sauce and then pile on the veggies. Stick the pie in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.

Chicken nuggets are also a favorite. When baked instead of fried, these are very nutritional meal items. Set your oven to 400 degrees. Take raw chicken tenders and dip them into beaten 2 or 3 egg yolks. Then take the nuggets or tenders and dip them into breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs that are commonly sold at grocery stores work great. Place the chicken on a greased pan and set in oven for a half hour. Grilling the chicken nuggets is also a great idea. This dish goes great with rice, mashed potatoes or just a little bit of fruit as a dessert.

A popular breakfast recipe for little ones is whole grain pancakes. Kids will think you are feeding them a sweet snack instead of a healthy meal. Whole grain pancake batter is sold right along side the regular pancake batter at your local grocers. Instead of fatty maple syrup, opt for a non-preservative berry spread to top the pancakes.

For a midday snack: apple sticks, strawberries, and other sweet fruit will always win them over. Children and teens are natural fans of fruit and often don't request any additional toppings or dipping sauces. If their favorite fruit is not in season, frozen fruit is just as nutritious and delicious when thawed.

Remember that a child will crave what he or she is fed the most often. There are many healthy recipes for kids that will always be a hit. Your children will thank you for it, someday.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-25984846951816544692014-02-04T13:42:00.000-08:002014-02-04T13:42:00.675-08:00Heart Healthy Recipe That Taste's Great

When it comes to our heart health it's important that we follow a heart health diet, that we get enough exercise and that we learn to control our response to negative stress in our lives.

It's true that heredity plays an important role in our susceptibility to heart health problems, but there are many aspects of our diet and lifestyle we can control, starting with a heart healthy recipe that you will enjoy.

Many studies have demonstrated the benefit of extra virgin olive oil, vegetables and garlic to overall health and wellness, yet it can be tough to combine these into something that is simple to eat, so here is a tasty pesto heart healthy recipe that will not only do wonders for your overall wellness but will taste great too.

I have to admit straight up that I have often had trouble digesting pesto recipes that I get in Italian restaurants, I'm not quite sure why, but my feeling is that there is too much oil or the garlic is perhaps too heavy.

That's the great part about making your own heart healthy recipes such as this pesto is that you can alter the amount of ingrediants to suit your preference.

There are 2 major ingredients in pesto that make it especially healthy for the heart.

Several studies have demonstrated the benefit of quality olive oil to heart health. By swapping other fats or carbohydrates for unsaturated fats such as olive oil you can have a positive impact on both lowering blood pressure and on lowering cholesterol. The impact on lowering blood pressure is a relatively recent finding by scientists and just one more added benefit of a heart healthy recipe that includes olive oil.

Another great ingredient in pesto that benefits the heart is garlic. Once again, several studies have demonstrated a beneficial impact on heart health with garlic including the ability to control and even remove existing plaque build-ups in your arteries. Even more important is that recent findings suggest that pure garlic (as opposed to supplements) is better for your system, pesto heart healthy recipes certainly fill that requirement.

In addition, the fact that this heart healthy recipe is low in salt and includes the tasty and healthy basil herb, also makes it a superb food for our heart.

HEART HEALTHY RECIPE - BEST PESTO

To make pesto you will need a food processor to combine and even liquefy the ingredients turning them into a marriage of flavors that is just simply incredible.

You will need...

1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil (I've even done 1/4 cup and had good success)

2 peeled garlic cloves (move to 1 if you not garlic crazy)

1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

1 Tablespoon of lemon juice

2 Cups of fresh Basil leaves (if you find the Basil overpowering, substitute some parsley)

Fresh ground pepper

Combine everything together except the cheese into your food processor and puree until smooth - I like it when it's combined into a thick paste. Finally, stir in the cheese and store it for at least a day in your refrigerator - it will keep for days and the taste will actually get better.

You can east this heart healthy recipe with thin toasts such as Melba toast or oven roasted toast that you make in your own oven. You can also serve it with meats or bump up the flavor of many other recipes. Of course, this pesto recipe will also be great with any pasta. Just remember, keep it cool until you pour it over your pasta.

There you have it, a heart healthy recipe that is quick and simple to make, lasts for days, is big on flavor and inexpensive to make over and over again.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-64626046174400915202014-02-03T11:43:00.000-08:002014-02-03T11:43:00.227-08:00Healthy Recipes

Studies show that some of the most mouth-watering and exotic dishes are the worst for man. Recipes meant to entice the taste buds are often low in proteins and fiber and high in carbohydrates. Regular consumption of this type of food can lead to serious health hazards like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hypoglycemia and type 2 diabetes. High cholesterol can further lead to other serious conditions like heart disease and osteoporosis. Switching to healthy recipes will help you shed those extra pounds and improve your overall health.

For many people going on a "diet" means having to deprive themselves from food they love to eat. Following healthier recipes gives you a low-calorie and low-carbohydrate diet that can help you have your fill without worrying about obesity and health problems. Recipes involving a low-carbohydrate diet use low-carb alternatives as essential ingredients, tasting similar to the high-carb foods you are not allowed to eat. So you can eat healthier food including meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, and green vegetables like asparagus, spinach, and broccoli until you are full, without worrying about your calorie intake.

People who follow the healthy recipes feel both physically and mentally fit. Small dietary changes can definitely lead to big results. Health practitioners relate that even with various breakthroughs in medicine, the best way to reduce the threat of the diseases is to reduce the likelihood of their occurring altogether. An easier and more practical way to reach this goal is to follow a healthy eating pattern, including healthy recipes in your daily life.

The sources of these recipes can be many. If your friend or aunt cannot supply them, browse the Internet or check with your healthcare provider. Experimenting with new ingredients and coming up with something delicious is also a nice idea. Your kitchen shelf should be full of quick and easy healthy recipes fulfilling your family's nutritional needs.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-4840898566519482422014-02-02T02:48:00.000-08:002014-02-02T02:48:00.785-08:00Five Simple Healthy Recipes for Kids

Those of you with children may find it difficult to offer healthy recipes for kids throughout the entire day. This may be especially troublesome these days if your children have already developed some poor eating habits or if they are among friends who are consistently eating fast food and bags of potato chips.

However don't worry, with a little bit of persuasion and vital teachings from your part, you can open your children's eyes to the wonderful world of healthy nutrition.

This is the perfect opportunity to educate your children about the importance of eating healthy, and what the long term repercussions can be if a person does not monitor what they eat. It's never too early to educate them about healthy nutrition in the hopes that from your teachings they grow up taking care of their bodies and never have to worry about health related issues of being overweight or obese.

Here are some healthy recipes for kids to get you started building your arsenal of meals that will be conducive to a nutritious and well balanced life. As you explore these options, take note of what your family enjoys eating and additional possibilities that you may think of. Often merely tweaking a few ingredients can produce an entirely new meal without needing much extra work.

1. Beef Bowl with pudding dessert.
Grilled or baked strips/chunks of meat with a layer of brown rice, beans, and any vegetables you know your family prefers. You can even add beans if you'd like, or potato wedges instead of rice. As a dessert, a small helping of pudding with a dash of whipped cream and a cherry to top it off.

2. Grilled chicken wraps with jello dessert.
These can be fantastic choices to offer your family because aside from the grilled chicken, you can include a variety of vegetables or other low calorie options that will taste great such as lettuce, beans, brown rice, tomatoes, onions, or even some shredded low fat mozzarella cheese. Use a whole wheat tortilla instead of tortillas made with refined flour.

3. Whole wheat pasta with turkey meatballs and frozen yogurt dessert.
Instead of eating the standard pasta made of refined enriched flour, opt for 100 percent whole grain pasta since it is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and high in fiber so you will eat less of it to get full. Ground turkey is also better for you than regular ground beef, or you can ever select the garden meat variety that is vegetarian to make your meatballs or meat sauce.

4. Soup and Salad.
There are a variety of soups such as vegetable, lentil, and minestrone that are all healthy and great tasting. Spice it up for kids by throwing in a few goldfish crackers and they will happily eat it all. A bowl of soup and a salad with their favorite toppings and a light salad dressing, PRESTO... you have a healthy meal on your hands.

5. Tuna pita pockets with applesauce dessert.
Whole wheat pita pockets provide the perfect "container" to place an assortment of healthy edibles within, and kids will treat it just like a taco. Tuna with lettuce, olives and some parmesan cheese can be a great starting point.

The healthy recipes for kids listed above are all far better and lower in calories than the majority of fast food or pizza delivery options available around you. Use these meals as building blocks to get you thinking of other possibilities you could prepare for your children. Depending on the age of your kids (5-10), you may want to get a little creative with the presentation of the meal. It's the simple things that matter, so think how you can present the healthy meal in a way so that they will start asking you to cook this meal again in the future. Sometimes by merely adding a decorative garnish such as a fruit cutout or curly orange/apple peel can inspire your child to want to eat the meal. If adding that little extra is all it takes to get them eating in a healthier manner, the minute or two spent on the presentation is well worth it.

If your children are older (11-18), then definitely a more serious conversation should take place. You can even gather specific articles and pictures from the Internet that will work wonders for motivation. Nothing works better than a graphic representation of a coronary bypass surgery.

Keep in mind as you build your library of healthy recipes for kids, maintain an ongoing recipe book where you continually add new healthy meals that your family enjoys. Pretty soon you will have a book full of healthy recipes for kids and if you want, you can even let your children decide which meals to cook out of the recipes you have collected. This way they will feel more connected to what is prepared and served that day.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-45199474869840062262014-02-01T04:04:00.000-08:002014-02-01T04:04:00.826-08:005 Tips for Creating Your Own Healthy Recipes

Most people think that all recipes come from Michelin star chefs or are handed down from some distant ancestor. Not only that but if you were to even consider making your own recipe, you would have to go through years of trial and error or training in the woods with some sort of cooking sensei.

What if I told you that with a little bit of planning and some simple diet knowledge, that you can easily create healthy meals for you and your family? Would you believe me? Read on.

Healthy Recipe Tip 1 - Planning is everything!

The thing that separates average and amazing cooking is simply planning. Taking a few minutes each week to plan meals for the following days can make a huge, and I mean HUGE difference.

Healthy Recipe Tip 2 - Steal!

There are literally thousands of recipe books, websites and blogs full of fantastic recipes. Keep all of these recipes in one place and when it comes to shopping for your next week/month, you can pick out the recipes that grab your attention and add their ingredients to your shopping list.

Healthy Recipe Tip 3 - Trim the fat!

Now it's time for you to get creative. Unless the recipes that you have sourced are super healthy, it is now your mission to take out the unhealthy ingredients, and either swap them with a healthy alternative or change the method in which they are cooked i.e. fried ingredients can be grilled etc. Even if they are already super healthy, don't be afraid to swap things you don't like for things you do!

Healthy Recipe Tip 4 - Be brave!

Now we have a healthy alternative to a recipe that you like, go wild and add any ingredients (healthy ones of course!) that you like and throw them in to the mix. The idea is that you will begin to understand really quickly what works together and what doesn't.

Experimenting with herbs and spices is a great way to start, perhaps add a few spoonful's of chilli in to your next casserole and see how it changes the flavour.

Healthy Recipe Tip 5 - Practice makes perfect!

I know that at the beginning of this article I said that you don't have to suffer years of trial and error to be able to create your recipes. It's true! However, don't expect to get it right all of the time. If you follow the tips above, you will make more winners than failures, all you have to do is stay clear on what you and the people that you will be cooking for like and the sky is the limit!

Good luck!

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-55050615965309585512014-01-31T07:48:00.000-08:002014-01-31T07:48:00.368-08:00Healthy Recipes for Healthy Lifestyles

Children are probably the most difficult to switch over to healthy recipes. If they've been enjoying the sugar cereals, toaster tarts, and quick little pizza rolls they aren't likely to desire mixed salads and fresh green beans. It's important to explain to children why the switch is so vital to their health. Talk to them about what the various nutrients do inside their body and talk to them about what sugar, salt, and other not so healthy foods do inside their body. This helps them feel good about trying new things and feeding their body more nutritious food.

If it was that simple we would all have children who never asked for candy. While it helps to talk to them it certainly is not a final solution. Transitioning a family to healthy recipes usually has to be done a little at a time. Allowing a few favorites to linger in the house can help make the transition much easier. By the time you have your family eating healthy foods you may want to consider hanging onto one or two little treats. When there are no options in the house kids will often find a way to create their own options.

It is most definitely helpful to use tasty health foods to encourage the family to eat better. Learning how to use fresh herbs can make a good dish wonderful in a heart beat. It's not hard and you can even enjoy the time you get to have planting and maintaining an herb garden if you wish.

Many of today's healthier foods taste good, are low in fat, and have little to no added preservatives. The freshest foods taste the best and you can usually find numerous recipes online to help make them tasty while retaining most of their nutrients. The more you learn about eating healthy the more you realize that there are endless benefits. You will lose some weight, you will feel better, have more energy, and look better. Many of the vitamins and nutrients found in healthy food contain the vitamins and nutrients essential for healthy skin and hair, thus improving the way you look within a month or so.

Learning to eat healthy is becoming a necessary life skill. Families that ignore this skill are finding that they are all experiencing health problems younger and younger. Healthy eating requires a parent to learn how to say no to unhealthy foods regardless of the behavior that follows.

You can find a myriad of healthy recipes online and in books. Most of the recipes are not difficult to make, taste very good, and are not overtly time consuming. They can be fun to make and fun to eat if you find the family friendly foods that are part of the healthy living concept. Then you can start to watch the transformation into a healthy family happen right before your eyes.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-83517836660630059242014-01-28T23:50:00.000-08:002014-01-28T23:50:00.187-08:00Dieting Made Easy With These Quick Healthy Recipes

In today's busy world we all look for the easiest and quickest ways to do everything. Time is at a premium; therefore, everything we do has to accommodate for this hectic lifestyle. Unfortunately, this means too many of our fellow citizens are ordering take out or grabbing a slice of pizza, too often, instead of preparing home cooked healthier meal alternatives. However, this does not have to be the case. There are a multitude of recipes that are easy to make in a minimal amount of time. Quick healthy recipes is required reading for anyone that is serious about turning over a new leaf and getting healthy once again.

The premise of quick healthy recipes is creating meals that are natural, easy to make, delicious tasting, and good for you. These recipes will allow you and your loved ones to lose weight and enjoy the process because your meals taste so good. Quick healthy recipes help make healthy eating and living a real possibility for everyone in your home.

A couple of my favourite meals from these lists that I am sure the whole family will enjoy are:

Grilled chicken fingers with honey mustard dip and baked sweet potato fries/strips. This is a quick healthy recipe that is a great alternative to the conventional unhealthy deep fried chicken fingers and French fries. This recipe is sure to be a family favourite and will keep everyone healthy and a little less heavy.

A great quick healthy recipe snack is creating your very own delicious smoothies. I love to create these smoothies and get as creative as I can. I like to start off with ice, 1% milk and a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt in the blender. The problem with eating healthy is that finding the right food is hard because we depend so much on taste as well as food content. When we don't get the taste we tend to become discouraged to want to eat healthy and the vicious dieting cycle continues. Even foods you can find like subway sandwiches still contain preservatives and things that are not good for us, mainly because these are still fast food items that the business owner wants to preserve to maintain their profits. So how do you eat healthy and have many different options as well of delicious tasting food? Healthy recipes!

When it comes to health, today more than ever, people are starting to take notice. Being sluggish and tired all the time is enough motivation for anyone to take a closer look at their diet. Healthy recipes are starting to show up everywhere and these are not recipes that look or feel or taste like dieters food! You can throw that old image of diet being synonymous with bland foods, only lettuce and a few vegetables, fruit and lettuce diets and so on, out the window. Today's healthy recipes are delicious, mouth watering, and appealing even to people who aren't trying to diet!

The main thing that makes these healthy recipes stand out in the crowd of healthy foods is that they are not only delicious, but they can be prepared to look delicious, taste delicious, and smell delicious. The hardest part of eating better or even dieting is de-programming your old idea of what delicious is. Tasteful should always be based on the tongue and olfactory (nose) not on some programming from television commercials or cleaver packaging. Most packaging says it has healthy food inside but the reality is that this is:

1. Before cooking it
2. Before adding the counter productive preservatives
3. Often is mislabeled anyway.

Healthy recipes at the core usually make use of the blends of many different healthy choices as well as ingredients that help your body operate at optimal efficiency. Items that have no taste usually (if prepared correctly) like fiber help your body to move things through it and remove toxins, foods like fruits and vegetables help replenish the body's needed vitamin supply, and are much better at this in their natural form than any vitamin will ever be. There are many ingredients you may never have even thought about that alone may not be too tasty but mixed with others could prove to be amazing. Take the tartness of grapefruit, a very good for you food by the way, that most people won't eat alone. Mix it with the sweet flavor of strawberries, berries and more into a smoothie and voila, you have your grapefruit!

You should rethink your strategy when it comes to healthy eating. Take out the negative incantations of what healthy eating means. It simply means eating foods that are good for you without the bad stuff. With the right recipes you'd be surprised how good it can be. Once your body acclimates to the new foods, it will actually reject in every way, those donuts, ho-ho's, and even foods with preservatives will taste and smell bad to you. Would you take a whopping bite out of a stick of butter? Of course not. Why? Because your body knows that's bad for you. You will instinctively know that certain foods will make you feel sluggish, and you will reject even wanting them!

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633739438827790751.post-15423161551055608212014-01-24T01:49:00.000-08:002014-01-24T01:49:00.518-08:00Healthy Recipes For Kids - Your Kids Are Important

In the life of today's world, it seems as if everyone is trying to look for a quick and easy recipe that is healthy. When you finally come across that one recipe that you have been looking for, you find that it requires a ton of stuff. You plan the meal, sit down and make that grocery list, drive to the store, do the shopping, check out, pay the bill and drive back and prepare that meal.

Then, when you sit down to have that dinner, the inevitable thing always tends to happen..those complaints. There are many healthy recipes for kids that are both quick and easy and we are sure your children will not complain.

When it comes to the development of those tiny children, nutrition is a vital role. It may sound tempting to you, but just slapping in a pizza and calling it a day is not enough. This is why we are encouraging you to make healthy recipes. You will be able to create your own recipes simply by changing around a couple of recipes or learn how to cook with a different type of gadget.

For example, if you use a rotisserie, then you will be able to come across many healthy recipes. When you cook the meat on the rotisserie, that crease and fat will be dripping away from the meat. When you use certain types of seasoning mixes, you will find that dish will come out tasting better than it ever did before.

One way to make a healthy recipe would be to take a normal one and reduce the amount of sugar and unhealthy stuff that it requires. You will be able to substitute certain items with healthy ones. Instead of using sugar, then you could try using applesauce for the sweetener. We know this may sound a bit strange to you, but it does work. For those healthy recipes for kids, try sneaking in some vegetables in those recipes whenever you can. For example, if you are making meatloaf for supper tonight, then add in some onions and chopped up peppers. If you are cooking soup, then add in some good vegetables that your family enjoys. For that omelet, slip in some spinach. As you see, you can make healthy foods without changing much at all.

slodoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17946170464710635925noreply@blogger.com
